Get Your Child Ready For Learning Games For Kindergarten And 1st Grade

By Peter Green

So, your young child is off to school for the first time. You are nervous but you know it is time for them to learn and become more independent. But instead of the excitement and willingness to learn new things, your child is nervous about starting their day. You know that their day will be filled with learning games for kindergarten and 1st grade activities but how can you get a child comfortable with going to school.

During this time, children learn valuable information and they learn how to interact and get along with their peers. They learn to take turns and to encourage other children. Parents and educators can teach young children how to follow rules, strategize, recognize different patterns as well as predict their opponents next move. They also learn how to just have good old-fashioned fun.

Talk to friends and family members about what you have read. Share your knowledge and encourage them to read as well. Great times to read include while taking a long bath, on your lunch breaks, or while cooking. There is actually a lot of down time between stirring what is in the pots and when dinner is ready. Find things to talk to your young child about that you have read during the day.

Here is a good thing to do. Form your own book club with friends and family members, but also arrange a young student book club as well. Select a book for the children to read during the month, and allow them to talk to their friends about it at their book club meeting. An older sibling could be in charge of the childrens book club, or adult book club members could take turns.

School anxieties are often caused by worries that many adults find silly. One big fear school children have is that their parents will die while they are at school. Point out that it is quite natural to not like parting ways, but you will be absolutely fine while they are away. Let your little one know that your love is always with them even when you are not. End the conversation with, you know I always come back for you.

It is important to get accustomed to reading to a child every day or night. You can then allow them to read back to you. If your child stumbles on a word, help sound it out, but don't let them struggle too much. Tell the child to tap you when they are ready for you to provide the word. Start with simple preschool favorites and move on to easy readers and simple chapter books as your child gain confidence and competence.

When you have been reading to the child and they start to get off your lap, pull them back to you and tell them how much you love holding them, and to please not go away from you ever. Keep your tone fun and engaging. Reading a book to a young one before school might soothe them before school.

This is another way to make reading exciting and social. Arrange your schedule so that you can visit your local library at least once during the week. Try not to worry if you do not find anything that you want to check out every time, it is not about that. It is about being surrounded by thousands of books, and just knowing how much knowledge you can gain from each book. Also, find the new bookstores in your area and visit those.
